Purpose
The Linnie Roberts Memorial Baseball Scholarship was established by his family to honor the memory of Linnie Linville Roberts, August 4, 1943 - May 31, 2011. He graduated from East Wilkes High School, where he developed a passion for baseball and enjoyed being a member of the East Wilkes Baseball Team for four years. He was known for being able to hit a baseball for a country mile.
It is the desire of his family that this Scholarship will assist in the recipient’s pursuit of a higher education, enrich and touch their lives and inspire them to make a difference in the lives of others. Scholarships will be awarded to an East Wilkes graduating senior who has played baseball for East Wilkes and plans to continue their baseball career during college. Recipients should identify as a Christian, exhibit strong character through a positive attitude, and have a passion for making a difference in the lives of others. Recipients will be selected based on their love for baseball, character, potential for success, and level of passion.
This scholarship will be given directly to the recipient. It can be used for tuition, fees, or books. It should be treated as a Scholarship of additional funds to you, not simply to “replace” other college funds given in your financial packet.
Amount & Use of Funds
$500.00
The scholarship may be used towards any need listed under their total cost of college attendance. The student is responsible for all other charges. The $500 is a one-time payment.
Criteria
To be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum GPA: 3.5
- Graduating Senior from East Wilkes High School, Ronda NC
- A member of the East Wilkes Varsity Baseball Team
- A certified Transcript
- 2 References; one from a school official, one from someone in the community, neither being written by relatives or friends.
- An essay describing a time you overcame adversity
- A photo, so that the winner can be released to the media.
There are no restrictions on area of study or geographic location of the college or university the student plans to attend. This scholarship IS available to students planning to attend community college prior to transferring to a four-year institution.
Application Deadline
All application materials must be submitted by April 19 each year.
